Conklin's Gully Loop

High Tor Wildlife Management Area
Naples, NY
2.4 miles / 3.9 km
July 21, 2024
Great hike for a workout. Difficulty was overall moderate but the initial hike up felt more than a moderate amount of work. The views of the gorge were decent, but there are prettier gorge hikes nearby. The waterfalls were running a bit dry, but made for an interesting hike. The trail is definitely popular, but we only hiked by a few people.

The views were really nice but the trail was extra buggy with black flies. Wish we wore bug spray for this one. The trail wasn't that difficult but had some exposed sections as the leaves weren't fully unfurled in late May.

East Point Sanctuary Trail

Views of the lighthouse and the coastline were beautiful. You can definitely skip the forest loop at the end unless you like hiking through overgrowth. Parking was a bit tricky, read the parking info for more details and to plan your trip.

This hike would've been nice if we didn't see any snakes. We saw four snakes and I hate snakes. Worst hike ever.

Nice waterfall stop along a roadtrip on US-40. Minimal walking to take in views of the waterfall or the nearby mountains.

Georgetown Lake Trail

Georgetown, CO

Beautiful views along Georgetown Lake from the trail. We tried looking for Bighorn sheep at the viewing area but were not lucky around 10AM in early June.

Another unexpectedly cool place to stop but the 3-foot deep snow had me turning back sooner than later. Views of Pass Lake, despite being frozen over, were cool. The nearby mountains had slumps of snow that looked like they were about to calve off at any moment.

Freezing temps and extremely strong winds in early June. We did not last long but took in the views

Nice views of the Great Sand Dunes from afar. Learned about sabkha assuming it was salt all this time.

Treasure Falls Trail

San Juan National Forest
Mineral County, CO

Had a great hike to Treasure Falls. We sat at the bench just below the base of the waterfall at the rock overhang after exploring the blowout view. The mist from the waterfall was welcomed after the hike up on a hot day. We skipped the misty deck section of the hike, but the views from downstream were awesome.

One of the strangest roadside stops I've been to but also a really cool natural feature to explore.
