How to Add Trails to MyHikes

With MyHikes, anyone can add their own hikes or favorite trails for others to explore. To learn how to add new trails to the platform, follow the instructions below.

  1. Sign up here if you don't already have an account; otherwise, log in .
  2. Click on the Find a Trail navigation link.
  3. Click the Add New Trail button on this screen.
  4. Choose how you want to add data:
    • GPX File — does not include input fields for notes and features (views, waterfalls, etc.). You can edit notes and features after a successful GPX import.
    • Form — includes GPX file and other input fields for notes and features.
    Click either tile to continue.
  5. Submit either the web form or the GPX file upload continue.
  6. Once the trail has been created, it will be in an unpublished state so that Dave can review the data before the trail is included in searches. Pleae see the Trail Review Process section below for more information.

Trail Review Process

Once a trail is submitted to MyHikes and it includes a GPS route, at least one picture, and a decent write-up, it'll go into review which usually takes about 1-week.

Please note that sometimes Dave is extra busy and unpublished trails go by the wayside because life gets in the way. If your trail content is not published within 1-week, feel free to contact Dave via the Contact Us page to inquire.

The Publishing Process

Dave, MyHikes' Founder and Admin, will review your trail and either publish it or reject it. If your trail submission was rejected, there will be a note with a rejection reason. You can decide to keep the trail as unpublished to track your stats or you can delete it.

Data Changed After Submitting

This is because Dave felt like the description could have been worded better for search engines, the mileage was slightly off, or something else. You may find some small tweaks to your trail data or notes before it's published and searchable on the platform.

Where Are My Unpublished Trails?

You'll find all of your unpublished trails in your user profile, located at the bottom of the page in the Unpublished Trails section. You can review, edit, or even delete all of your unpublished trails by clicking on the trail name or the trail's tile in your user profile. Click the Edit button on the individual trail page to make changes.
