My Black Friday hike was to get to the bottom on Bear Run Falls, I successfully accomplished that and as I was below the falls, I was able to spot this rock outcropping and decided to explore to see what it was, I was unaware that it was Little Jax Rock Overlook until I reached it. It's a beautiful little spot. I continued uphill and connected with the West Rim Trail and back out to where I parked the car.
This confluence is one of the most beautiful places in Pennsylvania. On this hike, crossed Rock Run and hung the hammock to relax a little across from Yellow Dog Falls and then looped back by climbing to Rock Run Road (Pioneer Rd on MyHikes map) and back out.
Hounds Run is beautiful and a place I have frequently visited. I was hoping to catch some great autumn colors, which I did, but also some harsh sunlight, but still a beautiful little hike.
I hiked this loop CW and it is the second time I have visited Twin Mountain Vista, I previously hiked in from the parking in the game lands. This is an excellent hike with amazing views.
I did this as a solo backpacking trip to winter camp at Sand Run Falls. From the Parking area, I connected with MST trail and hiked in. I took my boots off and did the cold water crossing above the falls. I hammock camped in the area at the base of the falls. In the morning a crossed the water below the falls and looped back up to the trail near the unnamed falls and then back to the parking area.
The Twin Sisters is one of the best places to camp out and enjoy the night sky. This was my 2nd time camping out at Twin Sisters, the first time I camped in the South Meadow. The trail like my previous visit was overgrown in places. I explored around the North Meadow and we set up camp at the far edge of the North Meadow. It was an incredible night to view the night sky and catch some of the Perseids Meteor Shower.
This was my first hike to Sandy Bottom Vista. The Gate was closed and I parked at the large lot. I did this as an early morning hike, just before sunrise out to the vista and back before my workday. I immediately fell in love with the view and knew I would be back. I also got to watch a bald eagle fly around below me from the pedestal rock.
Although I have hiked this route, this trip my route varies some when I took this overnighter to Hemlock. I hiked across the front of Hemlock to Callahan Run and took the old grade that is on the left of the run up to Black Forest Trail and then to Hemlock Mountain. I got caught in a heavy rain while hiking the ridge to the last climb up to Hemlock. The rain gave way as I got to the vista to set up camp. I camped out and finished the loop the next day hiking BFT to Naval Run and back out.
These waterfalls are some of the best, I did a hike in to see if I could be creative and find some different angles to photograph the falls from. The ladder is sketchy as always and I scrambled up the scree at Amphitheater to explore and take photos.
I completed Gillespie as a loop starting at the parking lot in Blackwell at Pine Creek, and going CW up to the point and taking MST to Big Run Rd and back. Gillespie is a favorite of mine but it has been a couple years, this was the first time I caught the fog still in the valley.
Made a quick stop on my way home from camping at Stony Peak. It was my first visit and I found a route climbing down to the falls for a quick picture and back out.
Dustin has been telling me I need to get to this place, I backpacked in for a moonless night to do some astrophotography. Stony Peak did not disappoint! It's an incredible place for sunset, sunrise and stargazing. I'll be returning for sure!
