The steep hike up Bull Run Trail was challenging but also incredibly picturesque with flowing cascades and waterfalls. The Chimney Rock Trail allowed for a peaceful stroll through a pine forest with many blueberry bushes, mountain laurel, and views. The descent to Chimney Rock led to one of my favorite vistas in the Pine Creek Valley complete with an American flag fitting for a Memorial Day weekend adventure!
I hiked Quarry Mountain Trail to reach this trailhead. The vista of Slate Run and Pine Creek made the climb worthwhile! The trail followed the ridge of the mountain and included mountain laurel, blueberry bushes, ferns, and THREE rattlesnakes….on my!
The challenging switchbacks up Quarry Mountain led to large piles of rocks, remnants of an old quarry site, and a surprise sunbather! Thank goodness rattlesnakes give a warning!
I really enjoyed hiking the trail adjacent to Naval Run Creek! After steady rain the week prior, the small falls, cascades, and Naval Run Falls were all flowing nicely! The vista overlooking Pine Creek at the summit was beautiful!
Jerry Run Falls and Bohen Run Falls were absolutely beautiful after days of steady rain! The abundant spring wildflowers along the trail coupled with the peacefully flowing stream made this one of my favorites of the Pine Creek Pinnacles!
The beginning of this trail traversed extremely steep, rocky terrain made especially technical due to the rain and slippery conditions! Although I did not see any views due to low visibility and cloud coverage, the woods themselves were misty and magical! Spring ephemerals were abundant!
The trail starts by crossing Pine Creek on a beautiful old railroad bridge! Overall, this hike offered interesting rocky outcroppings, stunning mountain views with moody clouds, and so many varieties of wildflowers! The Columbine was especially abundant!
After a series of switchbacks, this trail ended at the Wolf Run Bald Vista! I enjoyed taking in the views on the tree-carved bench! Little purple gaywings were blooming!
