Webber Homestead & Vistas Hike

Tiadaghton State Forest
Slate Run, PA
12.9 miles / 20.8 km
December 22, 2022
Challenging hike/trail run combo in the snow (used micro-spikes), but several of the best vistas in all of PA looking even more spectacular snow-covered! Looped BFT & Gas Line Terrace to enjoy the best of both! All trails easy to follow, even with no tracks & snow. Hiking the spine is neat since you end up getting to see views on both sides. Hardest part in winter is where to park - went to the end of Wolfe’s where no signs were, or could have tried Hotel Manor with BFT parking. Also have enjoyed the Gas Line Terrace vistas in September as part of a huge 22 mile BFT day hike loop!

Hike to Emerald Falls

Loyalsock State Forest
Forksville, PA
5.5 miles / 8.9 km
March 20, 2022
Off-trail walk through forest unable to find other vista to start, then followed trail down to stream & off-trail back upstream. Several nice waterfalls with Emerald Falls being my favorite - also liked Little Swamp Run small falls. Took shortcut straight up the steep mountain side back to trail - tiring but worth the time savings

Hike to Tamarack Falls

Loyalsock State Forest
Forksville, PA
3.09 miles / 5.0 km
April 01, 2022
Loved this hike! Parked along Loyalsock Rd where Tamarack Run crosses, then went off-trail staying on east side. Such a beautiful, lush forest area with moss-covered rocks & Pines heading down to the spectacular waterfall with lots of craggy rocks to make it more intricate (water flowing well during a Spring snow squall)! Found an old grade on the way back that is a bit to the east. Then drove down the road to park for the fairly short hike down to Alpine Falls along the LT which was also excellent!
Hiking

Dutters Trail to Old Bark Loop

Loyalsock State Forest
Hillsgrove, PA
6.5 miles / 10.5 km
May 15, 2021
Perfect loop starting on Dry Run Road, mostly along Loyalsock Trail (muddy spots but able to get around) including High Knob overlook, then off-trail along Dutter’s Run for lots of amazing waterfalls! Fairly easy to scramble upstream along rocks & banks - well worth it! Didn’t see a single person! Was able to drive 2 miles back down road and do 2nd hike of day at Ketchum Run which has another 4 large falls & many smaller!
Hiking

Mt. Tammany Trail

Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area
Hardwick Township, NJ
7.5 miles / 12.1 km
February 03, 2024
Amazing DWG views (glad I went super early morning in Winter to avoid crowds). Climb up wasn’t too bad, but totally worth it (3 main overlook sections w/ 2 having rock scramble out/down to edge for best views). Blue dot down rocky, then glad I did the green Dunnfield Creek trail upstream with beautiful cascades! Able to loop by crossing creek, up red-blaze Holly Spring trail which then leads to AT.
Hiking

Raymondskill Falls Trail

Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area
Milford, PA
0.9 miles / 1.4 km
November 19, 2022
Short & easy hiking to waterfall, just wish there were more options to see from other angles, especially at bottom of falls lower tier. Worth going upstream past the top lookout for some smaller cascades & beautiful creek. Lower platform pretty icy, so have to watch steps. Not as nice as Dingmans Falls, but both are worth doing in the same day!
Hiking

Dingmans Falls & Silverthread Falls Hike

Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area
Dingmans Ferry, PA
1.5 miles / 2.4 km
November 19, 2022
I think this is the most beautiful waterfall in the DWG (definitely better fall & hike overall than Raymondskill). Easy walking with very nice boardwalk past Silverhead falls (more impressive in person than photos show for this tall/narrow waterfall) & then to the base of the very beautiful, large Dingman’s falls! Nice steps to get to top of falls, and then definitely worth continuing upstream (multiple paths but no marked trails) for some beautiful smaller cascades! Even with dusting of snow, not slippery. Very family friendly!
Hiking

Tumbling Waters Hike

Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area
Pine Ridge, PA
1.9 miles / 3.1 km
March 04, 2023
This is a very under-the-radar waterfall hike in the DWG, but really an amazing waterfall with a short/easy hike up from Rt.209 to get to! Much harder to scale steep bank on left side to get above & then stream cross on a downed tree, but then there is a very nice 2-tier waterfall to enjoy! This waterfall could also be hiked to from the environmental center which is an easy/short hike.
Hiking

Upper Indian Ladders Waterfalls Hike

Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area
Dingmans Ferry, PA
2.5 miles / 4.0 km
December 16, 2022
One of the best waterfall hikes in PA! Started at upper trailhead, then hiked downstream all the way to the lowest falls before turning back. Dropped down to creek level lots of times to get better pictures of the falls. Used microspikes since hike along steep bank with snow covered trail. Have done the lower section of the hike up from Rt.209 to the first falls which is a peaceful/flat hike with several bridges, but the upper section has the better waterfalls (just more challenging hiking).
Hiking

Little Schrader Grotto Falls

State Game Lands 12
Canton, PA
5.4 miles / 8.7 km
December 30, 2021
Included Little Schrader Grotto starting with a hike farther south to Thomas Run falls which is very nice & easy game road hiking before off-trail hiking upstream on the left/south side a bit. The Schrader Grotto is truly spectacular - awesome rocks formed by the creek, and a waterfall that is very powerful! Tricky to navigate to get the best pictures in winter, but well worth seeing! Hike on left side for that too.
Hiking

Kellogg Mountain Overlook

State Game Lands 36
Monroe, PA
13.3 miles / 21.4 km
August 07, 2021
This is an excellent expansive vista (and did see several rattlesnakes while there in August)! Did as part of bigger hike coming from the south, since first visited the Satterlee Run confluence falls (which is one of my favorite off-trail spots in all of PA)! Both branches have multiple great waterfalls to enjoy! The climb back up the game road is challenging, then the main rocky game road on the ridge that leads to the vista is flat/easy.
Hiking

Lower Sand Spring Falls

Hickory Run State Park
Kidder Township, PA
0.1 miles / 0.2 km
November 19, 2023
Included this on my bigger loop around the entire park - definitely worth stopping at this beautiful spot, as is the dam by the Chapel across from Shades of Death trail!
