Hetchell's Tooth Cliffs Hike

State Game Lands 141
Jim Thorpe, PA
10.5 miles / 16.9 km
November 09, 2023
I've done this hike up from Glen Onoko parking area a few times and always enjoy (especially when the train goes by below), but did a much more ambitious loop continuing past this great view to even better ones off-trail farther north past the power lines with the deep red colors of late Fall Foliage! Then hiked down along the creek which was beautiful & remote (even saw a young bear), then a very nice mid-sized waterfall closer to the rail trail. Used the rail trail to loop back.

Hawk Rock via Appalachian Trail

Duncannon, PA
2.5 miles / 4.0 km

2 beautiful overlooks within a short but challenging hike (especially with all the snow on the ground). Recommend clockwise to go up the steeper east side, then can go down the more gradual AT. My young daughter handled it all perfectly taking our time, & we both had lots of fun!

Beaver Trail

Michaux State Forest
Fayetteville, PA
8.9 miles / 14.3 km

Already wrote a trip report that included this trail and a full loop around Long Pine Reservoir, plus a loop around Rocky Knob. Such a peaceful hike around the lake with lots of Pines!

Dark Hollow Overlook Trail

Michaux State Forest
Fayetteville, PA
0.1 miles / 0.2 km

Worth stopping for a quick view of this nice roadside vista, but not really a destination hike. Stopped on my way to hike at Long Pine Reservoir & Rocky Knob which was exxcellent!
Hiking

Chimney Rocks Trail

Michaux State Forest
South Mountain, PA
4.5 miles / 7.2 km
January 04, 2024
The loop I did includes even more (shorter but more elevation too), so definitely recommend! Awesome hike with all you could ask for, including the best view in all of Michaux State Forest (way more impressive in person than pics show)! Trails in great shape, AT nice as always, Hermitage peaceful with stream to follow, Shaffer Rocks truly impressive from both above & below! Parked at the small AT day-use lot off the main road, then counter-clockwise (up AT gradual climb, down Chimney Rocks Trail with forest road/old grade, then after short side trail to Shaffer Rocks, back down Hermitage to junction at Tumbling Run shelters.
Hiking

Mt. Minsi via Appalachian Trail

Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area
Delaware Water Gap, PA
8.7 miles / 14.0 km
March 04, 2023
Did as part of much bigger hike including off-trail starting at Slateford Creek with its 3 amazing waterfalls, then straight up the mountain till meeting up with AT, then AT east to Mt.Minsi ridge 2 great vistas facing south over valley & over to Mt.Tammany. Nice Rhodo section, then lower on the mountain has the best vistas overlooking the Delaware River & Mt.Tammany. Worth doing short user-parth/off-trail up to see nice mid-sized waterfall of Caledonia Creek where it empties from the lake. Completed my loop hiking back on Rt.611 which is closed to traffic. Mt.Tammany (NJ side) hike is nicer than this one, but worth doing both to get both perspectives over the DWG!

Hiking

Fourmile Run

Colton Point State Park
Gaines, PA
2.6 miles / 4.2 km

Trail in great shape - narrow & steep, but switchbacks make it fairly easy. Rexford Branch falls very impressive! Very challenging off-trail down to Four Mile Run, and then hiking in stream to see other awesome falls!
Hiking

Hounds Run Hike

McIntyre Wild Area
Trout Run, PA
0.85 miles / 1.4 km
June 17, 2021
Short, easy hike to decent falls with smaller dam falls first. Least favorite of McIntyre Wild Area, but all the others are some of my favorites in all of PA!
Hiking

Dutchman Run Falls Trail

McIntyre Wild Area
Ralston, PA
8.6 miles / 13.8 km
June 17, 2021
2 amazing series of waterfalls that are well worth the effort to explore! Dutchman Run falls is fairly easy to reach the first/main waterfall, then challenging (but worth it) to continue upstream for several other awesome falls! Off-trail through forest (about 2.13mi into hike from DR falls) to find Abbott Run falls which is very nice & has incredible cliffside formations surrounding it! Also challenging to continue upstream but worth it for several more nice falls! Wear long pants, as the initial rail-grade trail has very high grass with very narrow-to-no 21trail.

First Winter hike here - Dutchman’s Run falls is magnificent when iced over! Made a full day hike hitting up Rock Run, Miners Run, Band Rock vista, & then down all 5 falls along Dutchman’s Run. Very technically difficult doing falls sections, but totally worth the effort to enjoy all this special place has to offer!

Short, easy hiking along old grade to start morning since very foggy - nice small falls with confluence, but flowing low.
