Upper Indian Ladders Waterfalls Hike

Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area
Dingmans Ferry, PA
2.5 miles / 4.0 km
December 16, 2022
One of the best waterfall hikes in PA! Started at upper trailhead, then hiked downstream all the way to the lowest falls before turning back. Dropped down to creek level lots of times to get better pictures of the falls. Used microspikes since hike along steep bank with snow covered trail. Have done the lower section of the hike up from Rt.209 to the first falls which is a peaceful/flat hike with several bridges, but the upper section has the better waterfalls (just more challenging hiking).
Hiking

Little Schrader Grotto Falls

State Game Lands 12
Canton, PA
5.4 miles / 8.7 km
December 30, 2021
Included Little Schrader Grotto starting with a hike farther south to Thomas Run falls which is very nice & easy game road hiking before off-trail hiking upstream on the left/south side a bit. The Schrader Grotto is truly spectacular - awesome rocks formed by the creek, and a waterfall that is very powerful! Tricky to navigate to get the best pictures in winter, but well worth seeing! Hike on left side for that too.
Hiking

Kellogg Mountain Overlook

State Game Lands 36
Monroe, PA
13.3 miles / 21.4 km
August 07, 2021
This is an excellent expansive vista (and did see several rattlesnakes while there in August)! Did as part of bigger hike coming from the south, since first visited the Satterlee Run confluence falls (which is one of my favorite off-trail spots in all of PA)! Both branches have multiple great waterfalls to enjoy! The climb back up the game road is challenging, then the main rocky game road on the ridge that leads to the vista is flat/easy.
Hiking

Lower Sand Spring Falls

Hickory Run State Park
Kidder Township, PA
0.1 miles / 0.2 km
November 19, 2023
Included this on my bigger loop around the entire park - definitely worth stopping at this beautiful spot, as is the dam by the Chapel across from Shades of Death trail!
Hiking

Shades of Death Trail Waterfalls

Hickory Run State Park
Kidder Township, PA
14.6 miles / 23.5 km
November 19, 2023
Shades of Death is a very beautiful hike along the stream with awesome dam waterfalls & lakes to enjoy! Started with this as part of much bigger loop around Hickory Run SP and had the trail to myself starting super early in the Fall! Great laurel-lined outer trails, then went all the way to Fireline trail vista over Lehigh River which is nice, then back up past a few other nice dams, and north up Hickory Run which has other nice smaller falls in a much less-travled part of the park. This state park has everything you could ask for - just gets busy being in NEPA, so avoid busy times/seasons to fully enjoy!
Hiking

Tank Hollow Vista

State Game Lands 141
Jim Thorpe, PA
6.1 miles / 9.8 km
February 26, 2021
Have enjoyed this amazing vista over the Lehigh Gorge several times, mostly choosing to go in winter with snow to avoid seeing anyone else at this otherwise busy/popular spot (just have to do longer hike in from the main parking area by the main road in winter). Fairly easy hiking (even pulled my daughter in a sled on one of our trips in the snow)! For bigger adventure which is very challenging, there is a non-blaze trail that heads all the way down to river level, then just a short walk up by the train tracks to access Stony Creek which has a very beautiful waterfall not too far upstream that in winter you can go behind/inside the frozen falls! Whether backtracking, or trying to head upstream on the rhodo-filled banks to then eventually climb up and reach an outer blue-blaze trail that goes back to the start, it's tough going (especially when post-holing in the snow)!
Hiking

Jim Thorpe Tunnel (Turn Hole Tunnel)

Lehigh Gorge State Park
Jim Thorpe, PA
3.9 miles / 6.3 km
March 12, 2023
Even if the tunnel is closed, worth it to do the short but challenging climb up over top of the tunnel which has an excellent vista facing north over the Lehigh Gorge & Glen Onoko! There is a trail, just not blazed, and easy to follow since it's just a quick climb up. Did this as part of hike up to Hetchell's Tooth vista & back.
Hiking

Hetchell's Tooth Cliffs Hike

State Game Lands 141
Jim Thorpe, PA
10.5 miles / 16.9 km
November 09, 2023
I've done this hike up from Glen Onoko parking area a few times and always enjoy (especially when the train goes by below), but did a much more ambitious loop continuing past this great view to even better ones off-trail farther north past the power lines with the deep red colors of late Fall Foliage! Then hiked down along the creek which was beautiful & remote (even saw a young bear), then a very nice mid-sized waterfall closer to the rail trail. Used the rail trail to loop back.
Hiking

Hawk Rock via Appalachian Trail

Duncannon, PA
2.5 miles / 4.0 km
January 21, 2024
2 beautiful overlooks within a short but challenging hike (especially with all the snow on the ground). Recommend clockwise to go up the steeper east side, then can go down the more gradual AT. My young daughter handled it all perfectly taking our time, & we both had lots of fun!
Hiking

Beaver Trail

Michaux State Forest
Fayetteville, PA
8.9 miles / 14.3 km
June 04, 2023
Already wrote a trip report that included this trail and a full loop around Long Pine Reservoir, plus a loop around Rocky Knob. Such a peaceful hike around the lake with lots of Pines!
Hiking

Dark Hollow Overlook Trail

Michaux State Forest
Fayetteville, PA
0.1 miles / 0.2 km
June 04, 2023
Worth stopping for a quick view of this nice roadside vista, but not really a destination hike. Stopped on my way to hike at Long Pine Reservoir & Rocky Knob which was exxcellent!
Hiking

Chimney Rocks Trail

Michaux State Forest
South Mountain, PA
4.5 miles / 7.2 km
January 04, 2024
The loop I did includes even more (shorter but more elevation too), so definitely recommend! Awesome hike with all you could ask for, including the best view in all of Michaux State Forest (way more impressive in person than pics show)! Trails in great shape, AT nice as always, Hermitage peaceful with stream to follow, Shaffer Rocks truly impressive from both above & below! Parked at the small AT day-use lot off the main road, then counter-clockwise (up AT gradual climb, down Chimney Rocks Trail with forest road/old grade, then after short side trail to Shaffer Rocks, back down Hermitage to junction at Tumbling Run shelters.
