Key Takeaways

  • East Branch Falls is a unique, two-tier roadside waterfall in Loyalsock State Forest, featuring a dramatic main drop of around 25 feet and an incredible mini-gorge.
  • Despite the steep trail to the bottom, the falls are easily accessible from a nearby pull-off on Walkers Road, making it a great stop for a quick exploration near Hillsgrove, PA.
  • The area's forest roads (Mill Creek Road and Camels Road) are often inaccessible during winter months, so plan your trip accordingly for the best experience.

East Branch Falls (Mill Creek)

East Branch Falls is a roadside waterfall in the Loyalsock State Forest near Hillsgrove, Pennsylvania.  There is a small waterfall near the top leading into an incredible mini gorge and then to the larger drop waterfall of around 25 feet.

Getting There:

If heading north on Route 87, just as you pass through Hillsgrove and cross the small bridge over Mill Creek, you will turn left onto Mill Creek Road.  This road starts out as a paved road but will turn to a gravel road.  Follow this about 4 miles to Camels Road that you will turn right onto.  Once you turn onto Camels you will almost immediately take a left onto Walkers road and it is less than a mile to a pull off at East Branch Falls.

Note:

These forest roads are not maintained in the winter and the area may be inaccessible in the winter months.

Hike:

This isn't so much of a hike, from the road you can walk down and explore the upper smaller waterfall and mini gorge. There is a clear path that will lead to the bottom of the larger waterfall.  This is very steep in places so be careful as you explore the area.
