Hiked down to the first set of falls at Gunn Brook in December 2017 when the falls were frozen. This is a tiny hike out and back, but it's well worth a visit. In the winter, if Gunn Cross Rd is covered in snow, you can park at the intersection of Falls Rd and Gunn Cross Rd and hike up the road for an additional 0.1 mile to the trailhead.
Hiked Long Mountain from the Mt Harris Rd parking lot the day after Christmas 2017 with about 4 - 6 inches of snow. The trail was empty but we did pass one other person as we hiked back down the mountain. The last leg of the hike shoots up the side of Long Mountain with stairs that make this section a bit easier. Hiking in the winter can be slippery so ice spikes can be helpful. There are more views in the winter through the trees as well.
Hiked down to where the creeks converge and back to parking after a snowfall. The trail was empty and a bit slippery heading back uphill in the snow. We were looking for Jackson Falls, but only found "Keep Out" signs along where the trails to Jackson Falls lead west along the creek. Jackson Falls apparently sits on private property, so you cannot hike beyond the posted signs without explicit permission from the land owners.
