Perfect day to be on the best rail trail with family running with jogging stroller & taking plenty of quick picture breaks, and then a quick but super challenging climb up to the best vista in all of the Pine Creek gorge!
Definitely the most beautiful creek in all of PA! Started by doing short off-trail hike up to Black Run falls which was nice & flowing ok, then down to Stony Fork Creek using MST to Big Falls before turning back & staying along the creek as much as possible. Also went up Moss Run, but only a trickle, so didn’t see all the falls. Able to enjoy this special place with no other hikers on a perfect weather day bringing out the best of the water color!
Started with trail run to Water Tank Hollow, then climbed up Gillespie Point - such an amazing view and fairly easy trail considering the amount of elevation! Ran on the way back down - MST always in great shape!
A super challenging but amazing day hiking all over the Pine Creek Gorge! Started morning hiking up & back Gillespie Point (spectacular views), then did West Rim Jerry/Bohen Falls (beautiful waterfalls & cascades), then continued up WRT to old logging roads all the way to Chimney Rock trail/vista, then did off-trail scramble all the way down mountain to 414 which was very challenging, then hiked from Cedar Run to Blackwell start on Pine Creek Rail trail (stopping at bridges & Rattlesnake Rock). Longest hike & most elevation (to-date) but worth the effort!
Bull Run is a quite challenging 1 mile climb (but trail in great shape), then Chimney Rock trail had the most abundantly blooming, beautiful mountain Laurel that I’ve ever seen! Such a magnificent vista, and great to see the American flag flying with the nice breeze!
Beautiful, peaceful area - started going east around Long Pine reservoir, then hiked up CCW around Rocky Knob, and then back down/around the west side of water along Beaver trail (8.66mi total). Wonderful views the entire way around the reservoir with mostly pine forest - flat/easy! Mountain Laurel in full bloom & all around Rocky Knob Trail which is so lush, making things very enjoyable! View at the top is nice - just wish there were more views like it! Going CCW allows uphill for the steep part, then down the gradual side.
Perfect morning reflections on the lake with peak Fall foliage, then hiked up Panther Run trail with really cool rock formations & a nice vista, then MST with more cool rocks, and then up Tiadaghton Trail past crazy blowdown valley up to amazing vista overlooking Little Pine Creek gorge!
Always amazing views from Leonard Harrison State Park, then did Turkey Path trail down to Pine Creek with family late afternoon. 5yr old did great the entire time - just take your time and have good hiking shoes to stay safe. Lots of steps to use - nice workout coming back up! Leaves past peak & waterfalls low, but still a beautiful hike!
Challenging hike/trail run combo in the snow (used micro-spikes), but several of the best vistas in all of PA looking even more spectacular snow-covered! Looped BFT & Gas Line Terrace to enjoy the best of both! All trails easy to follow, even with no tracks & snow. Hardest part in winter is where to park - went to the end of Wolfe’s where no signs were (& they were closed anyway).
Hiked up from Naval Run to Hemlock Mtn vistas along the Black Forest Trail which was in excellent shape! One of my favorite vistas in all of PA, so happy to do for a bday hike after last doing in the snow over winter! Able to trail run back down the mountain which was fun!
