A friend and I took a quick evening hike up Bull Run to Chimney rocks vista. We both were pleasantly surprised by the elevation in that short amount of trail especially after just filling our stomachs full of food. The Vista at chimney rock however was well worth the climb.
Today I drove up to big rocks(one of my favorite local spots) I decide to attempt a little short day hike loop. I walked down to cross trail and explored black ash swamp, before continuing onto Reese trail. After a short road crossing I headed up Hesslegessel trail. After exploring the rocks and swamp I road walked back down to Sand rd. Hit quarry trail and after exploring bear wallow for a bit I worked my way back up to Big Rocks back to the car to drive up Goodall rd to finish my day off with a short sunset hike out dry hollow trail another favorite place of mine.
Today I took a friend and started the Golden Eagle trail loop as I did the year before. Had amazing views and beautiful weather. After a lunch break up near Bonnel Run vista we decided the day was still early and wanted to add a few extra miles, so at the GET saddle junction we opted to continue straight up and back down the dragons back trail. I had never taken this route before but that view down into slate run is one I will never forget and will be back to view again soon!! We finished up the hike back up the rail trail and back to our car.
This day I chose to hike from Blackwell up the rail trail, I took the old MST route and followed stone quarry trail up near fork hill. After post-holing in 10 plus inches of snow Johnson Cliff was a beautiful sight, however I still needed to make it down a very slippery and snowy decent. Very interesting and difficult hiking for me this day. I definitely earned the view today!!
Trail was beautiful, morning rain followed by an incoming thunderstorm front obscured the views, however it was clear enough to still be enjoyable. I opted to continue to follow MST followed by a road walk back down Big Run Rd.
Beautiful hike! Definitely some elevation gain! I loved Mr. Webber’s wonderful bench, I didn’t want to move from this spot, I could’ve sat there all day long! Was really hard on my knees coming back down, but all around a great day hike!
