About North Mountain Park

Explore the scenic beauty of North Mountain Park in Phoenix, Arizona, a haven for hikers of all levels. Choose from a variety of trails, including the popular North Mountain Hike, a 2.2-mile roundtrip journey boasting moderate difficulty and rewarding panoramic views. Be sure to navigate the trail junctions carefully, keeping right at the first and left at the second, before continuing your ascent onto the Shaw Butte Trail. Don't forget to keep an eye out for fascinating petroglyphs etched into the rocks along the way, especially near the lookout point. Parking is conveniently located at the North Mountain Visitor Center.

For a longer adventure, consider the North Mountain East Loop, a 3-mile moderate hike offering stunning vistas of downtown Phoenix and nearby Shaw Butte. Starting from Trail #100 at the visitor center parking lot, you'll soon encounter an unmarked trail leading to breathtaking lookout points. The loop trail then winds through diverse terrain with alternating ascents and descents, offering incredible views primarily on the southern and northern sections. Eventually, the trail loops back to the starting point via Trail #25, providing a satisfying and scenic hiking experience in North Mountain Park.
