This hike follows one named trail: Nature Trail (yellow blazes).
Hike
This hike begins at the northern trailhead for the Nature Trail at the park where the trail heads into the forest. The trail itself doesn't have much to see along the way, but does have several nice "views" of Big Poe Creek as it cuts through the forest. The trail itself is easy to follow as it winds its way around ferns and creek banks. During our hike here in July 2024, the trail was extremely buggy -- we had to wave our hands in front of our faces for almost the full 0.9-miles. 20-minutes of waving flies out of our faces was brutal, but the nature along the trail as tranquil and scenic. The trail did undulate its way through the forest, especially on the south side of the loop. It curves north and south, adding mileage to the length of the trail, which can be nice if hiking this during colder months.
If you plan to explore more of Poe Valley State Park, consider hiking the Poe Lake Trail or Poe Lake Dam Trail before leaving the park to get spectacular views of the lake and its surrounding mountains.
