Lower Stony Brook Falls

Lower Stony Brook Falls at Stony Brook State Park in Dansville, New York is an easy 0.2-mile out-and-back walk that features the scenic waterfall known as Lower Falls and leads to the park's designated swimming area.

Hike
This is not a hike but rather a very short walk that leads from the parking area over to the park's main swimming area where visitors will find the scenic ~15-foot tall multi-tiered waterfall known as Lower Falls within Stony Brook. The waterfall can be reached a couple of ways, but this route leads along the Gorge Trail before following the staircases down to reach the swimming area and Lower Falls. Note that, you can reach the same area by following the paved universally-accessible pathway that leads in from the parking lot as well.

While exploring the park you should consider hiking the ultra-scenic Gorge Trail along with the West Rim Trail to reach a fun and moderate day hike loop.

Universal Access
This exact route does not follow a universally-accessible pathway; however, visitors can follow the accessible path from the parking lot and around the north side of the restrooms to reach the same destination.

Parking & Fees
As of July 2024, there's a $9/vehicle entrance fee. Hikers will find a large parking lot at the coordinates provided, located at the end of the northern entrance of the park. The lot is large enough to fit several dozen vehicles as of July 2024.

Pets
Dogs are allowed only if leashed and must be cleaned up after.

Restrooms
There are restroom facilities located at the trailhead / parking lot.

Swimming
Swimming is permitted at the end of this trail in the designated swimming area, only when open and when a lifeguard is on duty. Please see the park's rules and regulations for more information.
