High Knob Overlook

High Knob Overlook at Loyalsock State Forest near Hillsgrove, Pennsylvania is an easy 0.1-mile out-and-back universally-accessible walk that features stunning views of nearby mountains from the summit of High Knob.

Exploring High Knob Overlook

High Knob Overlook is not a hike (despite several trails that lead up to it), but rather a roadside overlook that's easily accessible by vehicle. By parking at the eastern end of the lot, visitors can walk the fenced overlook to take-in panoramic west-facing views from the top of High Knob. Some of the mountains and peaks seen from the view are Smiths Knob and Sharp Top Vista to name a couple. After exploring the view, the walk back to parking makes for a very short 0.1-mile jaunt. You can even enjoy the same view from your vehicle if you wish.

Universal Accessibility

Note that this overlook is universally-accessible as the parking lot and road are both paved. The elevation change is pretty much flat, so you'll gain maybe 1-foot at most. Again, the view can be enjoyed from your vehicle as well.

Parking

Visitors will find a large parking lot at the coordinates provided, located at the far end of High Knob Road (loop portion). The lot is large enough to fit over a dozen vehicles as of December 2024. Note that there's no winter maintenance on this road and thus it may be impassible due to a buildup of snow and ice during cold months.

Pets

Dogs are allowed if leashed and must be cleaned up after.
