About Salmon River Falls Unique Area

Discover the breathtaking beauty of Salmon River Falls Unique Area in Richland, NY, a natural wonder easily accessible for all skill levels. The main Salmon River Falls Trail is a short, 0.5-mile out-and-back adventure perfect for families and casual hikers. Enjoy stunning views of the majestic 110-foot Salmon River Falls from two accessible overlooks along a wide, flat, crushed stone pathway. While a side path to the creek bed offers a closer view, please note it involves stairs and is not universally accessible. Remember to exercise caution around steep ledges and enjoy the easily-accessible views of this natural wonder.

For the more adventurous, the Salmon River Falls Gorge Trail presents a challenging alternative. This strenuous 0.3-mile descent leads to the base of the falls, offering less crowded views. However, due to steep grades, the absence of handrails, and potential hazards such as poison ivy, this trail is not recommended for novice or unfit hikers. The Gorge Trail is closed during the winter months, except for experienced ice climbers who must sign in and out. Leashed dogs are welcome to join you on both trails. Plan your visit accordingly and prepare for an unforgettable experience at Salmon River Falls.
