Before you head out to Hiawatha Forest, keep a few things in mind for a safe and enjoyable visit. The small parking area is typically not plowed in the winter, so plan accordingly. Hunting is permitted in the forest according to DNR laws, so wearing blaze orange during hunting season is strongly recommended, especially given the rudimentary and often unmarked trails. Be aware that the Main Trail can be icy in winter and partially flooded in summer.
