West Overlook Trail

The West Overlook Trail at Erie Bluffs State Park in East Springfield, Pennsylvania is an easy 0.6 mile one-way trail that leads from the southern trail junction with the Whitetail Crossing Trail and runs north to the shores of Lake Erie.

Follow the yellow blazes; however, do not confuse the Timber Trail (right-hand turn yellow blaze) half-way through the trail, with the West Overlook Trail. The easiest way to avoid accidentally getting on the Timber Trail, continue hiking next to the hillside that slopes down to Duck Run Creek.

On the northern end of this trail is an overlook of Lake Erie and is usually very windy. The trail continues west, down a steep portion of the bluffs and leads down to Duck Run Creek and out to the shores of Lake Erie; however, the GPS data provided does not include this portion as we stopped at the lookout atop the bluffs.

In the Winter and Spring the trail may be slightly flooded, but there are plenty of places to hike around the water. Dogs are allowed on this trail.
