Silver Cascade
Silver Cascade at White Mountain National Forest near Hart's Location, New Hampshire is an easy 0.2-mile out-and-back hike that leads to the base of the ~400-foot waterfall, Silver Cascade. This is not necessarily a hike, but rather a short uphill walk along mountainous bedrock to reach a view of the base of Silver Cascade. Hikers and visitors will find a medium-sized parking lot on the west side of US-302 and signage "Silver Cascade" located across the street with a well-beaten path that leads up the bedrock.
Base of Silver Cascade - Mile 0.1
Just up the mountainside is the base of Silver Cascade - a multi-tiered ~400-foot tall waterfall that spills off of the western slopes of Mt. Jackson on the Presidential Range. Silver Cascade may be taller, but the exposed bedrock that forms most of this waterfall's stunning cascading tiers shoots up the mountainside for approximately 400-feet. During the winter, when I hiked this, we needed a bit more gear to hike up the hillside to appreciate the waterfall in its full glory - so if you plan to explore here when there's snow and ice, plan accordingly. During warm months, it should be easier to explore up the bedrock; however, during the Summer the waterfall may run more dry than during Spring or snow melt seasons.
View of Mt. Willard - Mile 0 to 0.1
Just behind you, on the hike up Silver Cascade, hikers can turn around to find Mt. Willard and its beautiful cliffs located across the valley. If you're looking for more adventure, the Mt. Willard Overlook Trail might be a fun day hike to consider when exploring Silver Cascade with its trailhead located right up the road north of Crawford Notch.
