The Scott Falls Creek Loop at Scott Falls Roadside Park in Au Train, Michigan is an easy 0.3-mile loop walk that features views of Lake Superior.
This is not a hike, but rather a scouting walk where we went in search of Scott Falls. Turns out, Scott Falls is located across the highway (note the GPS track that leads to the highway); however, we thought the waterfall was between the highway and Lake Superior. Regardless, this is a nice walk to stretch your legs and explore the woods that sit along the lake shore.
Face In The Rock
According to the interpretive signs here, there's a rock carving of a face just east of the Scott Falls Creek. The interpretive sign includes a replica sculpture of the carving and notes: "The sculpture ... replicates a rock carving as made in 1820 by a French trapper and guide who accompanied Lewis Cass, governor of the Michigan Territory. Cass was on an expedition along the shore of Lake Superior on his way to what was to become Wisconsin. The journey eventually took him to the source of the Mississippi River in today's Minnesota. The face is that of "Powers of the Air" and was made as a tribute to the young Ojibwa hero named Ogichidaa who follows his fallen father as the leader of the Grand Island band of his people. Powers of the Air spent his last days in Thomasville, now known as Indiantown, 5.5 miles east of Munising, where his descendants still live."
