Naked Mountain Vista Hike
The Naked Mountain Vista Hike is a moderate 3.3 mile hike that leads to a fantastic view of the White Deer Creek Valley and follows the Glen Cabin Trail and Top Mountain Trail located near Forest Hill, Pennsylvania. After parking by the gate, follow the signage and cross the bridge over Spruce Run leading to the Glen Cabin. The trail continues on the left (western) side of the cabin. The trail is marked with Yellow Blazes and is quite easy to follow. Follow the trail to the end where you will intersect with Top Mountain Trail ~0.9 miles into the hike. At the intersection take a right and head East onto Top Mountain Trail which is marked by Red Blazes. At mile ~1.6 the vista will be on your left looking north. It is easy to find and there is a brown wooden post marking its location.
It is not recommended to bring animals or small children on this hike outside of the winter months. This area is home to a very large population of copperheads and timber rattlesnakes. The Top Mountain Trail has areas of high grass obscuring the visibility of the ground where one may often encounter them. Bring hiking sticks to poke around and clear the grass in front of you. Stay to the side of the trail in these areas.
There are multiple small streams that run across the trail at the start of the hike. You should have little trouble crossing and staying dry in the summer. In the spring expect this area to be very wet and muddy. If there is snow on the ground it would be very hard to see where the streams are located as they are very small and curve wildly across the path. Go slow and exercise caution.
