This route, tracked during the winter, leads from the main parking area and out across the lake's frozen ice to take in views of the surrounding mountains and glaciers in the hanging valley high above the lake. During warm months, you'll probably want to stay on-trail instead.Lake Louise is one of Canada's most-popular destinations for outdoor enthusiasts and Instagram addicts, as many refer to this lake as "Instagram Lake" for a reason. No matter what time of year or time of day you show up, there likely will be other people at the lake.
During the winter, the lake is completely frozen over and provides visitors with endless possibilities to stroll across its icy surface, assuming the conditions are safe enough to do so. You'll likely find people playing hockey among other fun activities on the lake's ice. During warm months, Lake Louise reflects vibrant turquoise hues which are caused by rock flour -- fine crushed rock and stone, created by glaciers in the hanging valleys overhead. The rock flour reflects daylight in the right frequency to create a turquoise-hued lake to the human eye.
While this route is extremely short, since we showed up right before sunset, there are other trails nearby that lead to more challenging adventures with stunning views of the lake, alpine mountains, and glaciers.
