Remember to check water conditions, especially if planning an overnight stay, and always filter water from natural sources.

For a rewarding short hike, ascend to the historic Sugar Hill Fire Tower via an easy 0.7-mile out-and-back trail. This dirt service road, closed to vehicles, provides access for hikers, walkers, and horseback riders. At the summit of Sugar Hill, seasonal campsites, restrooms, and breathtaking views – potentially including Seneca Lake during warmer months – await. Be aware that the Spencer Pond Loop can become muddy or icy, particularly on the south side; consider hiking counter-clockwise as an out-and-back to avoid the wettest areas. Seasonal access to climb the fire tower is weather permitting.
