Root's View Trail
Root's View Trail at Hemlock-Canadice State Forest in Springwater, New York is an easy 0.4-mile out-and-back hike that leads to a grassy knoll overlook within a beautiful wetland setting known as Root's View.Hike Description
This hike begins at the main trail located at the parking coordinates provided and follows the grassy (likely overgrown) path out to Root's View. The trail is easy to follow but will likely be overgrown. Along the way you'll pass two small ponds before reaching the grassy knoll with a ~10-foot "climb" to the top where you'll get a beautiful vista from Root's View around mile 0.18.
Upon this hike I chose to skip the rest of the overgrown poison hemlock and grasses and hiked back to the car for a ~0.4-mile out-and-back walk; however, there's another view located down the path if you keep going around mile 0.4 one-way from the parking lot.
Warning
Poison Hemlock: Note that as of mid-May 2023 the trail, for about 300-feet, was overgrown and lined with poison hemlock. Poison Hemlock is only an issue if you digest or get its oils in your eyes, nose, or on a cut - and can be a serious problem if you do so - so plan to wade through the poison hemlock to get these nice views, assuming you're showing up during a warm season.
