Purple loop

The Purple Loop Trail at Deer Lakes Park in Tarentum, Pennsylvania, is an easy 1.8 mile loop hike that leads along West Deer Lake and the south-central portion of the park. While this trail does not have a lookout point with sweeping views, there are nice views of West Deer Lake near the spur trail that leads to the main loop. Deer Lakes Park is also know for their disc golf and the Purple Loop Trail has a few of the holes along this trail.

The hike is generally easy, but the main loop of the hike heads uphill and then back downhill, so you get a little bit of elevation gain by completing the loop, but not much. Fishing is permitted in the lake with a state license. Considering Deer Lakes Park is just a short drive outside of Pittsburgh, this is one of the better hikes near the city. The area is usually secluded and you often see more deer than people at this park. Dogs and biking are both allowed on this trail and on all other trails at Deer Lakes Park.

Trail connections: You can also connect to Yellow Loop Trail, Orange Loop Trail, and White Trail from this trail as well.
