Martha Walker Garden Loop
The Martha Walker Garden Loop at Skyline Wilderness Park in Napa, California is an easy 0.2-mile loop trail that features an interpretive walk through a California native habitat garden.The Martha Walker Garden has several trails that intersect, giving hikers plenty of options to walk around to view native plants to California. Hikers will find young Red Woods and other trees, wildflowers, and garden beds full of native vegetation.
This GPS track includes a short loop through the garden, but there are plenty of other small trails to explore.
History
In the late 1970's the Napa State Hospital made land available and interested citizens rallied to save the valuable oak woodland which became Skyline Wilderness Park. The site of the hospital's former dump eventually became this California native garden - the Martha Walker Garden.
The garden is named after Martha Walker, a Napa gardening icon whom was known for her "Let's go into the Garden" weekly newspaper column which ran in the Napa Valley Register for 35 years.
Fees
There is an entry fee for Skyline Wilderness Park. As of January 2020, the fee was $5 for a two axle vehicle. Check the Skyline Wilderness Park website for more accurate and up-to-date details.
Parking
Hikers will find parking at the coordinates provided. The lot is large enough to fit a few dozen vehicles, but the lot fills up quickly.
Pets
Dogs are not allowed on the trails at Skyline Wilderness Park.
