The trail begins across the Kangamangus Highway from Lily Pond. It ascends 3 miles up to the tree covered Livermore Pass. After about 2 miles, hike past a small campsite, then past Irene's Path trail head. Livermore Trail then becomes a dirt road. Descend the trail, passing Norway Rapids. Then ascend Irene's Path about 2 miles, pass The Flume, then another 2 mile ascent back to Livermore Trail. It's about a 3 mile descent back to the highway.
