Ledges Overlook Trail

The Ledges Overlook Trail is located in Townshend State Park in Townshend, VT and features a beautiful vista point of the Townshend Dam. This trail can be hiked as a 3-mile loop/out-and-back or as a 1.7-mile loop.

The first half mile of the loop section is an elevation gain of about 500-feet ending at the overlook itself. There is a metal park bench and and large outcropping to sit on and take in the views. From the lookout you can see the entire Townshend Dam and the vast majority of the reservoir. From there follow the trail a little further up the hill and back down to parking lot.

Length
The sign at the trailhead says this loop is 1.7 miles, but it seems to be closer to 1.5 miles. This recording also includes a hike along the road that leads to the trailhead - this is because parking is not always available at the trailhead, depending on the time of year. So hikers may need to follow this route for a 3-mile out-and-back hike.

Parking
Hikers can find parking next to the dam, at the coordinates provided. The parking lot is located approximately a half-mile from the trail head. Hikers can also find parking by the trail head as well, but it depends on the time of year.
