Lambert Tower
Lambert Tower at Garret Mountain Reservation in Paterson, New Jersey is an easy 0.1-mile out-and-back walk that features an English-style castle tower that was built in 1896.This short walk follows a paved path as it leads uphill to the base of the historic Lambert Tower. The tower itself is closed to the public from entering, but you can walk around its base to take photos or get a glimpse of the greater Paterson, NJ area from the side of Garret Mountain, adjacent to the tower. Note that the pathway includes stairs, so reaching the base of the tower is not universally accessible. The tower is constructed of beautiful stonework with a smaller "shed"-like building attached by a pergola walkway -- during December the pergola was empty but it appears as though something like wisteria grows along the top, which must be stunning when it blooms in early Summer / late Spring.
History
This 70-foot observatory tower was built by Catholina Lambert in 1896. Along with Lambert Castle, the structure was built reminiscent of castles in Great Britian where Lambert spent his childhood. After Lambert's death, the tower was open to visitors throughout the 1930's and was used by the United States military as a lookout for enemy aircraft during World War II.
