This short section of the Justus Trail in Oil City, Pennsylvania is a 2-mile out-and-back hike from the northern parking lot in Oil City down to the water treatment plant and back.
The trail is partially paved and mostly flat. The first half of the trail is pleasant as it runs directly along the Allegheny River with views of the surrounding hills. Along the banks of the trail is an old oil well powerhouse that powered 14 oil wells that stretched the banks of the Allegheny River. The earliest well was in production from 1874 until it was plugged in 2000.
Further down the trail, it starts to head away from the banks of the river and into more industrial areas, which is less pleasant to look at. We hiked down to the water treatment plant before heading back; however, this trail stretches for another 5 miles from this point.
Dogs and biking are both allowed on this trail.
