Jamestown Falls

Explore Jamestown Falls at Adirondack Park in Sevey, New York, offering an easy 0.5-mile out-and-back winter hike that features viewpoints of Jamestown Falls and the Raquette River.

Hike
This trail is primarily suited for winter hiking, as during warmer months, visitors can easily access the banks of the Raquette River by car. However, during winter, the adventure begins just off the eastern side of NY-56 in Sevey, at the provided parking coordinates. Please note that the parking turnout may be small, especially depending on the snowpack conditions, but assuming your vehicle can access it, the hike commences here.

Follow the trail down the road, keeping to the right, as you make your way towards the Raquette River. Along the route, listen to the soothing sounds of a nearby water source feeding into the river, adding to the tranquility of the hike.

Upon reaching the banks of the Raquette River, you'll be greeted by the distant roar of Jamestown Falls. Although the falls sit upstream, approximately a quarter-mile away or more, you'll still be treated to a picturesque downstream view. Despite its modest height of no more than 8 feet, Jamestown Falls spans the width of the Raquette River, showcasing its impressive power and force during the winter or high-water seasons.

After taking in the breathtaking views of the Raquette River and Jamestown Falls, retrace your steps up the road to return to the parking turnout, completing this rewarding 0.5-mile out-and-back winter hike. Whether you're captivated by the beauty of the falls or the tranquility of the river, the Jamestown Falls hike promises a memorable outdoor experience in the heart of Adirondack Park.

Parking
During warm months and no snowpack, hikers can drive down to the main parking lot located at the viewpoint. During winter months, if your vehicle can drive the road, you can park at a turnout located just off of the main highway.
