Hawn's Overlook Trail

Hawn's Overlook Trail at Raystown Lake Recreation Area near Huntingdon, Pennsylvania is an easy 0.3-mile out-and-back trail that features panoramic views of Raystown Lake from the perch of Hawn's Overlook.

Exploring Hawn's Overlook

This short out-and-back trail leads from the Ridenour Overlook Road, heading south, to reach Hawn's Overlook following a dirt trail. Hawn's Overlook Trail starts at two different trailheads -- this route begins at the staircase, but there's an easy grade trail with no stairs located on the east side of the parking lot. This route lead back to parking by following that grade back up to parking. While the trail is not technically universally-accessible, it should be able to accommodate almost all visitors. The trail's substrate is dirt with some gravel spots, some smaller rocks and roots though those are scarce.

Hawn's Overlook - Mile 0.15

The trail ends along a rock cliff line, around mile 0.15, at Hawn's Overlook. The overlook provides a panoramic view of Raystown Lake and its human-made peninsulas and islands. From Hawn's Overlook, you'll find an unofficial trail that leads down and around the ramparts of the overlook, where you can find more opportunities to take-in more views of the lake, albeit they're very similar.

Parking

Visitors will find a large parking lot at the coordinates provided, located at the end of Ridenour Overlook Road. The lot is large enough to fit about a dozen vehicles as of November 2024.

Pets

Dogs are allowed only if leashed and must be cleaned up after.
