Douglas Pass Overlook
The Douglas Pass Overlook near Fruita, Colorado is a roadside stop that features panoramic views of Douglas Pass from 8,200-feet.This is not a hike, but rather a short walk from the parking turnout to take-in panoramic views of Douglas Pass. The mountain pass gets its name from the northern Ute, Chief Douglas. The Utes established a trail over the pass which was eventually used by European explorers and settlers. Following the Ute trail, the highway was constructed in the 1920s. While there's no hiking or really any walking required to enjoy the views, you can appreciate the effort and work that the Utes once put in to establish a trail along this mountain pass.
