Hike
Embark on this brief but captivating hike along the western side of NY-28, just south of Raquette Lake, New York. Although there is currently no signage at the trailhead as of February 2024, the trail is easily identifiable and begins with a gentle ascent into the forest. Within a few hundred feet, hikers will find themselves immersed in a majestic stand of towering white pines, remnants of a bygone era untouched by logging.
While the grove itself is relatively small, spanning approximately 100 feet along the trail, its significance is undeniable. Look for an arrow sign adorned with a red blaze marker, indicating the continuation of the trail. However, the old-growth forest does not extend beyond this point, allowing hikers to enjoy the splendor of these magnificent trees without venturing too far along the trail.
Whether you're marveling at the towering white pines or reflecting on the resilience of these ancient giants, the Cathedral Pines Trail promises a serene and awe-inspiring experience amidst the natural beauty of Adirondack Park.
Parking
Hikers will find a parking turnout at the coordinates provided, located along the western side of NY-28 south of Raquette Lake, NY. The turnout is large enough to fit a half dozen vehicles at most.
Pets
Dogs are allowed if leashed and must be cleaned up after.
