The Bucktail Overlook (aka Top of the World Vista) at Elk State Forest near Driftwood, Pennsylvania is a beautiful drive-able vista that has two panoramic views of the mountain tops within the PA Wilds.

This vista does not have a defined trail that hikers can follow, but visitors can meander around the top of this mountain, following grassy fields, to take pictures from the different vantage points. This recording is about 0.2-miles long, but most folks visiting this vista will not need to walk around much to get a great view.

Hikers will find parking at the coordinates provided. Please note that if you plan to use Google Maps to drive to this destination, their map system will try bringing you down a private driveway and NOT the road that leads up to this overlook. Be on the lookout for green street signs - one of which is labeled "Fred Woods Trail" - this is the dirt road you want to drive up.

Road Conditions & Winter Maintenance
The road that leads to this overlook is a narrow dirt road and it does not have any winter maintenance.

Dogs are allowed if leashed.

Before you leave...

MyHikes is an independently-owned platform aimed to make exploring public trails easier for everyone. MyHikes has no investors, no shareholders, no goal to profit, and is owned and operated by one person. We share trails on the interwebs for the fun of it and put a ton of time tracking, writing about, and publishing new trails each month.

But it takes a lot of money, time, and effort (including espresso shots) to run MyHikes. Our content is and always will be free to use, including interactive trail maps and elevation charts, pictures from the trail, and dope points-of-interest like vistas, overlooks, waterfalls, backcountry campsites, abandoned structures, and more...

So we simply ask that if you find our content helpful or useful when planning your outdoor excursions that you consider making a small donation to help keep our lights on.

You can become a Supporter* (*MyHikes account required) when donating to unlock perks. Or you can Donate without an account.

Either way, thanks for checking out MyHikes and have a great hike!
