Key Takeaways

  • The Blue Trail in Plymouth Woods is a short, easy 0.4-mile loop suitable for a quick nature walk.
  • Be mindful of a potentially difficult-to-see turn marked with a blue double-blaze and watch out for muddy conditions on the downhill section.
  • The park is closed to hiking during rifle hunting season (typically mid-November to mid-December) and has specific rules for bow hunting season (October to mid-November), including staying on marked trails.

Blue Trail (Plymouth Woods)

The Blue Trail at Plymouth Woods Nature Reserve in Pine City, New York is an easy 0.4-mile loop hike that features a peaceful walk in the woods.

This very short trail begins at the main trailhead entrance for Plymouth Woods and heads straight, due-East, along the Blue Trail as it heads further into the park. Shortly, hikers will reach a blue double-blaze w/arrow marking on a tree -- take the right-hand turn here, located just beyond the markings. This turn is a bit difficult to see when the leaves cover the trail, so simply look downhill for the next blue blaze. After taking the right-hand turn the trail will lead downhill before heading back up to complete the loop. Note that this section of trail is by-far the muddiest along the loop, so watch your step to prevent from slipping during wet seasons. The trail will loop back to itself, adjacent to the main trailhead and then the hike is done at mile 0.4 when you return to the main trailhead gate.

Parking
Hikers will find a very small parking lot for Plymouth Woods at the coordinates provided, located on the east side of Kneale Road in Pine City, NY. The lot is large enough to fit a handful of vehicles.

Pets
Dogs are allowed only if leashed and must be cleaned up after.

Closed to Hiking for Hunting (Seasonal)

This changes each year. Also note that hikers are permitted to enter the park during Bow Season, but must stay on trails at all times. Bow Season 2023 was from October 1 - November 17th.
