Bare Mountain via Old Mill Lane

This 1.5-mile moderate unmarked trail is located on Old Mill Lane in Granby, Massachusetts and heads to the top of Bare Mountain in the Mount Holyoke Range State Park. The trail itself is about 3-feet wide and appears to be used as an access trail into the park.

The trail starts off gently but quickly becomes very steep with only one notable switchback for a short pause along the way up to Bare Mountain. Loose trap rock dominate the vast majority of the trail making secure footing challenging for the hike back down, so trekking poles can be handy here. Eventually, the trail brings you to the bald southern-facing summit of Bare Mountain with views towards Springfield, MA.

Hike just a bit further to the north lookout point atop Bare Mountain, with views of Amherst, before hiking back down.

Pets: Dogs are allowed if leashed and their waste must be carried out by the hiker.

Parking: There is a small area to park and a clear entrance to the trail at the parking marker provided.
